About this car
SilberArrows are delighted to offer this elegant and highly collectable 1962 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL. Complete with its optional hard top, this dry stored example showcases the vehicles original specification and unmodified interior whilst featuring a little patina throughout this timeless classic.
SilberArrows has undertaken various engine and mechanical restoration works on this 190 SL, including 'era correct' engine modifications and fine tuning. Viewing is highly recommended to appreciate this spectacular motor car.
Although first introduced at the 1954 New York Auto Show, it was 1955 when the definitive version of the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL arrived for the first time at the 25th Geneva Motor Show. Its birth was thanks to Maximilian Edwin Hoffman (American importer of Mercedes), who strongly wanted a Roadster model inspired by the 300 SL but more affordable.
The 190 SL sat as a more affordable alternative to the legendary 300 SL. Although the cars shared the design style, the 190 SL featured a monocoque platform based on that of the sedan, as opposed to its bigger brother's more complex and expensive tubular spaceframe chassis.
Power for the 190 SL came from an inline 4-cylinder engine, fitted with twin carburettors driving through a fully synchronized four speed gearbox. With 104hp on tap, performance was more than enough, and it can happily keep up with the modern-day traffic.
