The second-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK, internally designated as the R171, is a two-passenger, front-engine, rear wheel drive, retractable hardtop roadster which was first unveiled at the 74th Geneva International Motor Show and manufactured and marketed for model years 2004–2010. Currently in its third generation and manufactured at Mercedes' Bremen plant the SLK nameplate designates Sportlich (sporty), Leicht (light), and Kurz (compact).
The SLK55 AMG variant features a 5.5L V8 (M113) engine paired with the 7G-TRONIC AMG SPEEDSHIFT transmission and boasts many other unique AMG features such as increased brake capacity, additional engine oil coolers, lowered/stiffened suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, AMG body kit with distinctive gills, Nappa Leather and a quad exhaust system unique to the AMG models.
